There, at the side of the road stood an ice cream parlor. Unconsciously, Amy's feet walked towards the place. The friendly old man whom she met few years ago was still there, selling delicious ice cream to his customers. As usual, the old man flashed a warm smile towards her without fail. " Vanilla and strawberry again, young lady?" he asked. Amy just nodded in response. After paying for the ice cream, she thanked him and walked to the park.
Amy sat on the bench and slowly licking the sweet treat. Her eyes scanned the park. There are few children playing at the playground, with their mothers near them. Two couples of elders were taking a stroll and a pregnant mother with her husband sitting quietly beside each other. It was the times like this that made her treasured every second of her life.
Her mind wondered to that one moment that changed her whole life. The day when she was unable to save one person that meant the whole world for her. Before that, she never failed any operations that was handed to her. In fact, she was one of the most successful surgeon in the country. She remembered all the horror, the thick red blood, the smell of death, everything, as if it was yesterday. She was unable to save her own soul mate. The feeling left her devastated for weeks and even years later, even now, she still unable to forgot the dreaded feeling that wounded her heart deeply.
On that fated day, the rain pours so hard outside the windows. Suddenly, a beeping sound was made by her beeping machine telling her that she was needed in the ER room. She rushed as fast as she can towards the room. There, she saw Arthur, bathing with red, on the bed. Strengthening her determination, she made her way towards the bed and started the operation. After four hours, Amy saw the head doctor shaking his head, telling that there's no hope for him. Pulling those wires off him slowly, she took her time taking in his features and held his hand tightly, as she felt if she released the grip, he would disappear with the wind. Arthur held Amy's face one last time and with his last breath, he muttered, "I love you, always. Till we meet again, my dear." and closed his eyes for eternity. At that time, she knew he was lost forever and the reality created a wound so deep in her heart. Amy knew the scar in her heart will never heal.
She looked at the view of sunset and appreciated the peaceful feeling that washed inside her. She finished her ice cream in silence. She vividly relived her first encounter with Arthur, the other piece of her soul. It was in this park they first met. Over an ice cream too. They fought over the last vanilla ice cream. Just like kids too. After then they started to tell each other names, jokes and eventually leads to the altar. A chuckle escaped her lips.
After a moment, the Sun shone its last spark of life, and the Moon started to glow softly. Amy took it as her cue to leave. She walked slowly, enjoying the breeze and accidentally, she bumped to a man.The man turned around. For Amy, shocking was an understatement. She blinked her eyes several times to make sure her eyes didn't played trick on her. He was the spitting image of her late husband. The man held out his hand gently and she took it shyly. "I'm sorry to bump into you. Are you all right?", he asked. Amy just nodded. He introduced himself as John. She just smiled and after exchanging quick glances, they parted ways.
After a few steps, Amy heard John shouts, "Till we meet again, Amy!" Hearing the words, Amy quickly turned towards John but all that's left was a gentle breeze caressing her face. She just replied softly, "Till we meet again, love."
